Shapes in the Sand

Lovingly and sustainably hand-made in Australia, Shapes in the Sand (@shapesinthesandswim) was founded by Alexandra Dash, whose love for nature and the environment inspired her to create some of the most gorgeous eco-conscious swimwear around. Each piece is made using ECONYL® yarn, which is sourced from the recovery of ghost nets via initiatives such as Healthy Seas (@healthyseas). They also follow a zero-waste ethos where all aspects of production are made using recycled and sustainably sourced materials, this includes swing tags, packaging, care labels and hygiene liners.

DAVY J

What sets apart Davy J from the other swimwear companies is its goal to create a closed-loop resource system. This means that when their swimsuits reach the end of their lives, they will be returned to Davy J, where they will find a way to reuse the resources, how cool! Their target is that by 2020 they will have achieved 60% closed loop recycling.

“An average of 640,000 tons of fishing nets are left in the oceans every year (1/10 of all marine litter). For every ton of waste nets collected there is enough nylon regenerated to create more than 10,000 swimsuits.” – DAVY J

As a sustainable women’s surf wear company, Salt Gypsy’s entire product line is made from 100% regenerated nylon, a.k.a ECONYL®, which is a long lasting and more durable recycled nylon lycra. ECONYL® is widely used in sustainable swimwear and this is because of its many positive impacts on the environment.

The benefits for every 10,000 tons of ECONYL® used are:

  • The elimination of 12.6 thousand tonnes of waste
